iBook G3 Clamshell with vinegar syndrome

Post by TheCapfather »

I have this iBook G3 Clamshell that is suffering from vinegar syndrome. This is when the LCD display shows some kind of superficial lines that makes it difficult to see the content on the display.
A bit more of a technical explanation is that this happens when the LCD's internal polarizer films, which are made of acetate, break down into acetic acid..

The only solution to this is to replace the actual polarizer film on the screen. I did it on mine and I recorded a video showing the process in case it helps someone. This is the video:

Here is a link to Aliexpress, where I bought the polarizer film. For this laptop it has to be 135 degrees, 12.1" 4:3 (250mm*188mm).

I was able to get some useful information from this post too: https://ameblo.jp/keroxiee1016/entry-12730822252.html
