Two Playstation 2 controllers

I recently bought two PS2 controllers for 10eur (~11USD). One of them was sold as not working at all while the other only had a couple of defective buttons. This problem is common with this PS2 controller model: SCPH-10010 Basically, the carbon pads in the flex board that makes contact with the butt...

iBook G3 Clamshell with vinegar syndrome

I have this iBook G3 Clamshell that is suffering from vinegar syndrome. This is when the LCD display shows some kind of superficial lines that makes it difficult to see the content on the display. A bit more of a technical explanation is that this happens when the LCD's internal polarizer films, whi...

Re: Macintosh Powerbook 145B - Trackball not working correctly

I was able to get online a pair emitter/receiver diode similar to the one used on this board. It was not the easiest thing to find, because most of those diodes I found were like the usual LED form factor (rounded). But I needed one of those that, once soldered "vertically", would emit/rec...

Macintosh Powerbook 145B - Trackball not working correctly

I have this Powerbook that I bought some time ago and it was not working, not even turning on. I was able to fix it but there are still some things not working correctly. When using the trackball, the mouse cursor is not moving up/down, only horizontally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9Ayk5OANyk ...

Re: Sony D-88 not playing CDs

I kept working on this and finally found the solution :D The reason why the laser head was not moving is that the middle gear, between the motor and the laser-head rod gear, was stuck. I was able to take it out with tweezers. It has a small clip holding the gear so I needed to take that off first an...
